Who is behind UK When Is
Radif Partners
Independent publisher of UK date tools: bank holidays for each nation, clock changes, Easter and the dates that hang on it, worked out by rule and checked against the official lists
UK When Is is published by Radif Partners, a company that turns public rules into small, free tools. This one answers a family of questions people in Britain type every week of the year: when is the next bank holiday, when do the clocks change, when is Easter, Mothering Sunday or Pancake Day, and how many working days are left before a deadline.
Why a site built on rules
Most of these dates are not chosen each year by someone: they follow rules written down long ago. Easter follows the tables annexed to the Calendar (New Style) Act 1750. The clocks follow the Summer Time Act 1972 as amended in 2002. Bank holidays follow Schedule 1 to the Banking and Financial Dealings Act 1971, the St Andrew's Day Act of 2007 and a royal proclamation each year that fixes the rest and moves days that land at a weekend. We wrote each rule as code, and the site works out every date from it, for any year.
Rules are only as good as their check. GOV.UK publishes the official bank holiday list for 2019 to 2028; our tests compare the rule with that list for every nation and every year, and name each one-off day that no rule could predict, such as the coronation holiday of 2023 or the World Cup holiday in Scotland in 2026. Where GOV.UK has published a year, the site shows the official list. After that, it shows the rule's answer and says that the date waits for a proclamation.
What the countdowns do
The countdowns read the clock of your own phone or computer and count in your time zone. They do not send anything anywhere, and nothing you type in a date field leaves the page. That is also why a page may show a slightly different number of days if your device clock is wrong.
What we are not
We are not GOV.UK, the Cabinet Office, the Privy Council Office, a devolved government, a church or any public body, and we use no crest or official logo. We do not decide whether your employer closes on a bank holiday, whether your bank processes a payment, or when your mosque begins Ramadan. Those decisions belong to others, and the pages say who.
How the site is paid for
It sells nothing and collects no contact details. If advertising is shown one day, it will stay outside the tools and cannot see what you enter, which never leaves your device.
Corrections
