Editorial and corrections policy
People book leave, train tickets and childcare on these dates. A wrong Monday costs real money, so every date on the site is produced by a coded rule, and every rule is tested against an official list wherever one exists.

What we read
- legislation.gov.uk: the Banking and Financial Dealings Act 1971, the St Andrew's Day Bank Holiday (Scotland) Act 2007, the Summer Time Act 1972 and the Summer Time Order 2002, the Calendar (New Style) Act 1750, the Working Time Regulations 1998 and the Fireworks Regulations 2004;
- GOV.UK: the bank holiday list and its data feed, the clock change table, holiday entitlement guidance and the National Service of Remembrance guidance; mygov.scot and nidirect for Scotland and Northern Ireland;
- the royal proclamations published by the Privy Council Office;
- for church dates, the Church of England's Common Worship calendar; for astronomy, Royal Museums Greenwich.
Sources we refuse
Countdown sites, calendar sellers and news round-ups never supply a date here: we have seen too many copy one year's list into the next. When a date depends on a decision nobody has made yet, such as the start of Ramadan in a UK mosque, the page gives the calculated expectation and says plainly that it is one.
Review cycle
A script compares our copy of the GOV.UK bank holiday feed with the live one and fails when they differ, so that a new or moved holiday is read by a person before the site changes. Proclamations are checked when the Privy Council publishes them, usually in the summer for the following year.
Corrections
- We read the official text or list again.
- We correct the rule or the data and add a test for the case.
- The site rebuilds and the change is dated on the pages concerned.
